Top tips & ideas for a yummy, healthy lunchbox

Swap high sugar snacks including chocolate bars, biscuits and cereal bars for lower sugar versions such as teacakes and fruit breads
Avoid sweet sandwich fillings such as jam or chocolate spread as these are high in sugar and may lead to tooth decay
If your child isn’t keen on wholegrain, try making a sandwich using 1 slice wholemeal and 1 slice white, or use 50/50 ‘best of both’ varieties

INGREDIENTS
200g dried mixed fruit
250ml milk
200g sugar
125g butter or margarine
250g self-raising flour
1 egg
METHOD
1. Preheat the oven to 160C or gas mark 3.
2. Put the dried fruit, milk, butter/margarine and sugar in a large non-stick saucepan
3. Bring to boil stirring all the time
4. Once it has boiled, turn the hob off
5. Leave to cool for 10 minutes
6. Fold in the flour and mix well, add egg and mix again
7. Pour into a greased loaf tin and put in the pre-heated oven for 1 hour
