Unsalted nuts are a great snack for children to have at home, but it’s best to leave them out of your child’s packed lunch to protect any pupils with a nut allergy. Try carrot sticks and houmous instead
Not only is it important for the number of sugary foods or drinks eaten to be reduced, but also for teeth to be cleaned twice a day so that the time teeth are exposed to sugar is reduced
To make lunch more exciting, instead of just using bread, you could try using a roll, a wrap, a panini or a bagel

INGREDIENTS
1 egg
½ to 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise
METHOD
1. Place egg in a saucepan and cover with water
2. Bring the water to a boil
3. Boil the eggs for 10 minutes
4. Allow the egg to cool and peel the shell off
5. In a bowl mash the egg together with the mayonnaise

INGREDIENTS
3 ripe bananas
3 eggs
100g sugar
150ml vegetable oil
275g self-raising flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
METHOD
1. Preheat the oven to 180C /Gas 4 and grease and line a loaf tin with baking parchment or greaseproof paper
2. Peel the bananas and mash with a fork. Tip into a large mixing bowl and add the eggs, sugar and oil. Use a fork or whisk to combine
3. Add the flour and baking powder and whisk together until thoroughly combined
4. Pour into the prepared tin
5. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the cake is well risen and a knife inserted into the centre comes out clean
6. Cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack and leave to cool




A healthier alternative to white bread is to have wholegrain bread instead. Whole grains help us to have healthier teeth and gums
When including chopped up fruit, add a squeeze of lemon juice to stop it from going brown
Children often like food they can eat with their fingers, so chop up raw veggies such as cucumber, tomatoes, carrots or peppers, and give them pot of hummus or cottage cheese to dip the veggies in
